My jack stands are so rusty that it is hard to get them up or down. The spring releases are rusty and so is the foot sleeve that slides up and down. Has anyone found a good rust remover or a way to clean them up and repaint them? I would replace them all(4); if I thought I could get the nuts off. I could sure use some advice on this one.

I just replaced the rear ones on my Apache. One of the spring releases failed while I was driving at 65mph. Don't know how long I drove with it down before someone signalled me. It was pretty well banged up by then. Fortunately, my local trailer supply had 2 of them - identical to the originals, and fortunately, the bolts came right off with no problem. Have you tried removing yours? - al r.

I did take mine apart and wire brush, paint them. Was a lot of work

and still have a missing hold down clip/ spring. I drove out the hinge

tube to remove them instead of attempting the bolts. On reassembly

just reflared the hinge tube. But, what is your time worth?

You can get new ones for about $25 each, but you have to watch as

some need to be welded on, they do not have mounting holes.

They were made by Attwood, they have them here......

The JC Witney jacks are the same and only cost $34 for a pair, with a new handle! For $68 and an hour or so to install, it's almost not worth spending a whole day cleaning, priming, and painting the old ones. Still, for $8 worth of paint, I could redo the old ones and have $60 for some other toy! Hmmm...

On my 79 Ramada it has the 2 front jack stands but appear to be completely rusted. the 2 for the rear are gone. may have been dragged off what is left there is bent up real bad. When I got the trailer it came with 2 2 ton hydraulic bottle jacks and 2 standard leveling stands that you see on alot of the older regular travel trailers. _________________ Me -71 (Jeff) Wife ?? on my ramada the front 2 are there and rusted out.. the rear 2 are gone all that is there is what was the main mount bracket.. I have yet to do anything with them as when I got the trailer there were 4 stabilizers one for each corner that have done the job great so far. Maybe next spring I will look into them more _________________ Me -71 (Jeff) Wife ?? (Shauna) Thomas 97 Nicholas 01 '79 Ramada '95 GMC Z71 in Utah
