I am getting ready to start cleaning up the outside of my 66 buffalo-mesa, and I am open to suggestions. It has the gold anodized aluminum finish. It has black streaks and rust streaks that seem to have soaked into the finish, as they don't come off with cleaner, wax or light polishing compound. Can the old finish be restored, or should I just etch and paint the body. Thank you. Jim Z

Hi Jim, I just now saw your qustion and here is just a thought. If the panels can be removed without making you nuts, any anodizing shop should be able to strip and replate them. With all the anodized I have ever worked with once you get the condition you describe not much will fix but what you already thought about. Hope this helps a little Good Luck Spanky & Babydoll 69 MASA 95 JeeP Cherokee

Thank you for the information. The entire body has the anodized finish, so it would not be easily removable. (See pictures in JimZ gallery) It looks OK from 10 feet away, so I will probably go with it for the rest of the season, and do a paint job in the spring. I will probably paint it to match the tow vehicle. Thanks again for the reply. Jim Z.

I believe that the metal polisher/refinisher/protector that Tim has recommended in the past, and whose name I can't remember, would do a good job on this. It takes a little elbow grease, but all the aluminum on our Ranger sparkles after using it. I have no idea where the can is now, or I would look it up. I found the info under Apachepopups Old in the repair section, I believe. Good Luck
