I'm the proud new owner of a 1975 apachce mesa. It needed tires along with a few other thigs. Last week I decided to pull off the rims and replace the tires. The right side came off ok however the left side was a different story alll together after breaking two sockets and two ratchets and trying to use a four foot cheater bar on it with no results. My neighor came other and said have you ever thought that those may be left handed threads? Noi No they can't be!! But oh yes they can! With one easy turn to the left they came off. How stupid could I be! drtee 75 mesa _________________ drtee

Yes.. most of the time the left side is left handed threaded. There should be a L on the nut. My 72 mesa was that way.. my truck bed utility trailer is also that way. My Ramada however is not and I am not sure why it doesn't have left hand threads on the left side. _________________ Me -71 (Jeff) Wife ?? I had a tire shop break one of mine while I was on vacation. You are lucky that you didn't break the left handed lug bolts as they are very hard to find. Mike

I would think that a tire shop is smart enough to see the L on the bolts.. did they make it right and extract the broken bolt?? and get you a new one??? or did they leave you 1 lug bolt short?? _________________ Me -71 (Jeff) Wife ?? (Shauna) Thomas 97 Nicholas 01 '79 Ramada '95 GMC Z71 in Utah

Good thing it was the sockets that broke and not your wheel axle or the bolts. Sockets are MUCH easier to replace!

What suggestions would anyone have about preparing the lug bolts for removal? I have tried to unscrew the left side ones (yes, I did not realize that they are left handed at first.) I have put a bit of pressure (a relative term) on them with no results.

Try tightening them up a little and then loosening them. I use an impat wrench for this though.
