Has anyone replaced or painted the sheet metal cabinets? If replaced, what did you use to replace them with? If painted what type of paint? Thanks |

We just repainted the metal on our cabinets with a hammered metal paint that we got at either Home Depot or Lowes. You can use any metal paint as long as you clean the metal thouroghly before you paint. |

The Hammered finish seems to be harder than the regular paint. I've used it before on an old LP tank. It held up better than anything else I've used. It also covers minor "blemishes" better. Make sure all grease is off (I've been using Denatured Alcohol). The Hammered finish that I have been using is Rustoleum brand. It take 2 to 3 coats to completely cover. Your first coat will dry with some "holes" in it. It took 3 coats of the black on my wheel rims, frame & step but looks good now. My ceiling struts only took 2 coats (silver). No primer is needed but if your surface isn't in good shape your finished surface won't be either. My ceiling struts had some rust on them that needed to be sanded off but when I started sanding the old paint came off in chunks, just like it does when no primer has been used. So a couple of my ceiling struts could look better but I've too much to do in such a short length of time. I'm even painting the exterior with the silver hammered. I hate the scraped & chipped "Apple Green" but don't want to paint it dk green to match Jeep (tow). I'll just put a dk green stripe down the side.
