Hi - I'm looking for some help/old manuals/etc. Picked up a 78 Royal  - everything seems to be working but.....

fridge got cold after about 4-5 hours on AC  - I understand that even with the new models, the manufacturers recommend plugging them in 24hrs before use - has to do with the method of cooling - propane heats the system up fastest, then AC, then DC.

However, I can't properly check the DC systems as don't seem to be getting any power. Is there an in-line fuse or fuse behind the reset button? The label reads : Central Power Pack, Besler Electric, Model ES-06. Also, I can get the pilot light working on the furnace but, it seems it's dependant upon the 12V to fire (I think the thermostat needs the power).

Thanks

The converters in the '78's are not fused. They have that little button that is a circut breaker on the front. Pull it out to reset it. If you are not getting 12v at all it may be a bad conection for the 12v out the back. Light blue is the 12v + while white is your 12v -. There should be one line coming out of the back that everything taps off of, posibly two lines. Check those to see if your connections are good and there are no shorts. Test with a 12v tester at your splice ins to see how far power goes before there is none. This way you can eliminate good circuts from bad and trace back to where the problem is. Let us know what you find.

Thanks Tim, I'll check it out. One person I was talking to at a RV dealership said that the converter is probably shot... Any thoughts on the furnace? Does it need the 12V?

The furnace could also be a bad thermocouple. If the thermocouple does not sense heat it will not fire also. It all snow balls doesn't it!? Just check thru your progressions and you'll find the problem.

there are two areas to check

i am not sure but i dont think the converter is used to run the frig.

why would you use 12V when you have 120v.

another area to check is the 12v fuse between the trailer plug and the camper.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the 12v fuse at the front for the 12v running from the tow vehicle and has nothing to do with the 12v from the converter? The Apache's were set up to use your car battery for 12v power. Then the advent of deep cycle rechargable batteries came into affect switching it from your car to a deep cycle, rechargable battery. I believe the fuse you speak of is for that circut and is before the power converter so has no bearing on the power converter working or not. The 12v should also go to the fridge on this same circut but I personaly do not know of anyone who runs the fridge on 12v

Speaking of furnace.. on my '72 Mesa.. I can light the furnace and get some heat out of it but I can't get the blower to work.. I saw a fuse by the blower motor and checked it. All looks good there.. Any ideas would be great..

check and see if you are getting power thru the wiring with a 12v tester.

On the Mesa, it's probably the same problem that I have. The blower needs the 12V. Do you lights work? If you're getting power, i believe tim mentioned the thermocouple. dan

Yes.. My light and fan on the ceiling works fine.. The outlets seem to work fine. The water pump sends water up to the sink.. I do have the trailer plugged into a 110 outlet. I did see 4 wires near the fan.. which ones would I want to check out???

Now trace the line to the furnace and check it for power. If you have power there then it is something in the furnace system. The furnace goes thru progressions to light and fire up. Turn the switch to the thermostadt on the on position. Set the temperature control to the thermostadt to 75 degrees. Light your pilot light and hold the knob in for 1 minute. This is to heat the thermocouple. The thermocouple tells the gas valve that there is heat/ fire and to ignight the burners. The '78 models had a different furnace than the earlier models.
