We will be leaving Orlando Friday to go to Charlotte NC to pick up a 78 Ranger, sight unseen. I have been told it is in great shape except for the lift system. Probably has some bad chains. Looking forward to seeing it.

I will be taking tools and grease to redo the wheel bearings before we start out. I am also pulling the wheels off my Roamer so I know I have some good tires. Is there anything else that anyone can suggest that I take with me?

a pin for the hitch latch. A 12v tester light, electric tape, strippers and wire nuts. A 12v battery charger with manual setting, dont check the lights with tow vehicle as if grounded to itself will blow fuses in tow vehicle, personal experience!!!!. bungie cord in case stabilizer legs are loose and dont stay up. cresent wrench. A harley guy will tell you a cresent wrench before duct tape! Floor jack and jack stands. Take a crank with you just incase. And lots of Mt. Dew to hype you up for the drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a lite bar that I am going to strap to the back of the camper. If there is a problem with the wiring inside, I don't want to mess with the lift system to get it open to fix the problem. Got the floor jack, duct tape, meter to check the lites, crank, padlock for the hitch, 4 way tire wrench, two wheel assemblies, grease, two cresent wrenches, bungie cords, and several tie down straps.

Thanks for the list. Some of those items I hadn't thought of. Anything else? I got lots of Pepsi, I don't do Mountain Dew!

You might want to bring a second vehicle (maybe a truck) hauling a trailer just to pack all the stuff that Tim suggested. icon_lol.gif

Be careful! Have a good time, and remember how envious we all are of you getting another one!! And, Jail House rock would be a good one to tune to on the greatest hits CD!!

Ive picked up a lot of Apaches and at that distance Ide bring the kitchen sink.... I have a lot of tool boxes I carry with my junk in it and the floor jack could prove to be the life saver of them all. I have not run into a problem with the connections being bad inside the camper for the tail lights. Its usually at the plugor where it is spliced in on the plug or at the connections inside the bezel or the connections on the lights. But then again, I have done the lights on these things so much it's almost second nature at this point.

When I went to Nebraska to pick mine up, I had a portable light set, lots of tools, duct tape, and on and on, but if have to stop and fix something and you get too tired, I also brought along a pad and a sleeping bag to sleep in the back of my van and to then keep on working.

LOL on the Mountain Dew and Pepsi. Personally I like both, but when driving long distance the best thing that has helped to keep me awake is to eat sunflower seeds. The process of sucking on the salt and then working with you teeth and tongue to break the shell and to remove the nut keeps your mind and motor skills active and has kept me awake when caffeine was giving up.

Good luck on your purchase.
