Darn it! On my first camping trip with my 68 Eagle, I broke the bed when I tried to lower the canvas support that lowers the bed at the wrong time and the bracket popped out of the side rail that slides in. The bracket has a little "wheel" on it and is now bent. Don't know how to fix or even what it's called. Does anyone know where I might take it to get it fixed in Ohio? I'm so upset. Can I still use the bed without the support of that side rail? Will the legs be enough support? Please help.

Typha, try Farber East in Columbus. They still service Apaches, as they were a dealer when they were new. They are now a large RV dealer/ parts place. _________________ Bill 77 Ramada without end beds

sorry typha, didn't see that Tim had placed an post on here about fixing it; I would recommend Tim over Farber East. I bet Tim has done more Apache repairs than all the staff at Farber combined.

How's that for a sales pitch Tim?

In the above photo there is a 1968 Eagle pictured in the center. I recieved this email from Johns father, who owned it and sold it to John some years back. The following is Al's account of his Apache and a very nice thank you for the repairs I made to it. People recognize quality in their Apaches and they do become parts of the family and a soft spot for the memories of raising children and grandchildren in. John and Al are just one of the stories I hear all the time dealing with Apache's and there owners.

Recently, my son, John Krantz, brought his Apache trailer to you to repair. You did it - wonderfully - and he immediately let me know. I just want to let you now how much I appreciate your work. My wife and I bought our first Apache in about 1968. We traveled, with our four sons, all over the country in it for about twelve years. It finally fell apart, and we looked into repairing it, but found another just like it, used, at that time, so we bought that one. The is the one you repaired. We continued to travel in it, as the boys grew and went away. When we were alone, we continued to travel in it. It was the only way we could imagine going on vacation. We traveled alone, and began taking grandchildren with us. The trailer was a part of our family. We never named it - it was always the trailer, or the Apache. We never gave it a gender - it was always "it". But it was never a possession. It was a part of our family. When we set up in a new campground, our usual activity was to walk around the campground, looking at all the other setups and commenting on how much better ours was than any others - unless they happened to have an Apache. My wife died ten years ago, and I realized I would not be travelling that way by myself, so I sold the trailer to my son, John. He and his wife and three children have had many wonderful trips in it. I look forward to the time when one of his children will inherit the trailer and continue the tradition. All this is just to say "Thanks". It may have been just a job to you, but "Dr." Schefer, you healed a very important member of our family, and set it on its way many more years of life. Al Krantz

Thanks Tim for sharing that with us. Memories and family time together are important parts of life. Thanks for sharing the memories of one family and their trailer. _________________ Alan Restoring a 1973 Ramada

Thanks for all of your replies. I was delighted to see the 68 Eagle in the picture, as it looks just like mine.

Farber East says they do not fix pop-ups, but I would rather someone like Tim take a look at the problem.

Thanks to Al for his recommendation and his story about his own Eagle.

Also, I really can back up straight . . . who said that I couldn't anyway???

Bill, that was a close one..... I thought Tim was going to have to send the pit bulls after you....scaring off potential business like that. Heck, you got Tim so riled up he had to post a testimonial here in the forums. I would trust Tim with any repair. He'll be installing the doorbell and the satellite dish on my Ramada if I can get out to the Detroit area soon. Yes Pete, that sure was a close one!

When I first saw my Apache for sale in my neighbor's driveway last May, I noticed the Farber East decal on the back. I called them, asking if they still service the lifting system if need be, and checking to see that if I did buy this old camper I could still get parts for it. Whoever I talked to told me yes, they were an Apache dealer back in the seventies, and that they would still service them if needed. NOTE: this was days before I discovered this site, and actually at a time where the new site was still in its infancy.

Farber East is a large RV dealership, certainly the largest in central Ohio. Guess they don't want to mess with our old popups now, according to Typha. Who needs them anyways? Us Apache owners need to stick together!!

I didn't even realise what an Apache was when I purchased my Mesa.. The night I looked at it I got online and found the oldsite and figured I couldn't go to far wrong buying it.. and so I purchased it the next day. well now I am on my second apache. _________________ Me -71 (Jeff) Wife ?? Well, Lori brought her 1968 Eagle up from Columbus, Ohio and I got it fixed for her while she waited. Turns out the repairs could be done reletivly fast and there was no sense in her dropping it off, going home and then returning next weekend. What a nice looking Eagle also! The interior was perfect, no wear what so ever!!! Not even a water stain in the bed end wood!!! Great little Apache Lori, hope to see you next year at the Roundup. Yes, thats right, I am going to do another Roundup next year in the michigan area.

Too cool Tim, glad you got it fixed for her so quickly and easily. Lori, great looking Eagle!  Glad to hear there are already plans for a Michigan Roundup next year; I am planning on hitting that one!

Yes, I got the Apache home safely from the Michigan trip and Tim got it all fixed up like new in less than 2 hours! I surely appreciated him taking the time to do the repairs while I waited. What a great experience to meet him and Connie and to hear their Apache and camping stories. I highly recommend Tim to anyone looking for someone to help with repairs or advice – well worth the drive. Thanks a million, Tim, and also for posting the picture of my Eagle. I’ll certainly plan to attend the Roundup and look forward to meeting some of you there next year!

Gratefully (and planning a camping trip this weekend . . .),

Lori
